Adding alt text to your assets improves accessibility, supports SEO, and provides a text alternative when an asset cannot be loaded or rendered.
Zoomforth allows you to add or edit alt text for assets in both the Media Library and the Site Editor.
Important: Alt text is stored separately in the Media Library and Site Editor. Changes made in one location do not automatically update the alt text in the other location or on other published sites using the same asset.
Alt Text vs. Asset Description
Alt text and asset descriptions serve different purposes.
Alt text provides a text alternative that describes an asset for accessibility purposes and can be displayed when the asset fails to load or render.
Descriptions may be displayed as captions for certain types of assets.
For guidance on creating effective alt text, see How to Write Good Alt Text.
Add Alt Text in the Media Library
To add or update alt text for an asset in the Media Library:
Open the Media Library.
Select the asset you want to update.
Click Click to add alt text.
Enter or edit the alt text.
Click Save.
Add Alt Text in the Site Editor
To add or update alt text for an asset directly on a site:
Select the image or asset you want to update.
In the left editing pane, click the Content tab.
Scroll down and expand Accessibility.
Enter or edit the Alt Text.
Click Done Editing Tile to save your changes.
Important Considerations
Because alt text is managed separately in the Media Library and Site Editor, keep the following in mind:
Updating an asset's alt text in the Site Editor does not change its alt text in the Media Library.
Updating an asset's alt text in the Media Library does not change its alt text in the Site Editor.
Changes to an asset's alt text in one site do not automatically update the same asset's alt text on other published sites.
If the same asset is used in multiple locations, check each relevant instance to ensure the appropriate alt text has been added.
Alt text is one of several accessibility requirements. For the full list, see the accessibility guide for Zoomforth sites.
