Change spacing between anchor links

Adjust the padding between items in the anchor link navigation menu. Useful for fitting more links in the menu bar.

You can adjust the spacing between links in your site's main and secondary navigation menus to better suit your site's design.

The main navigation menu displays links to your site's subpages. The secondary navigation menu displays anchor links within a subpage. If your site has only one subpage, its anchor links may appear in the main navigation menu instead.

Spacing between navigation links is controlled by the Padding setting in the site's theme.

Note: If the theme is being used by multiple sites, you may need to clone it before making changes. See Duplicate a Theme for more information.

To change the spacing between navigation menu links

  1. In the Themes dashboard, hover over the theme you want to edit, then click Edit.

  2. In the theme editor, use the left pane to adjust the Padding setting:

    1. Main navigation: Expand Site Header > Navigation, then change the Padding value.

    2. Secondary navigation: Expand Site Header > Submenu, then change the Padding value.

  3. Increasing the padding adds more space around the navigation links, while decreasing it reduces the spacing.

  4. Click the Publish button in the upper-left corner to apply your changes.
